Goal

Create a web application to monitor the Twitter stream for a specified set of public health terms.

Summary + Outcome

Social Media and Situational Awareness: Monitoring the Twitter Stream for Public Health-Related Trends. PHTweet is a web application prototype created by the IIU to monitor the Twitter stream for a specified set of public health terms. This project helps with situational awareness needs by leveraging the ubiquity of this social medium to survey public health-related trends. The user has several options for how he/she would like to view the Twitter data: Bubble View, Graph View, or Relationship View. Additionally, there are temporal options for displaying the data: daily, hourly, or in two-week periods (the temporal options depend upon the selected view).
