Goal

Create a web-based tool to enable the public health workforce to rapidly scan published health-related news articles.

Summary + Outcome

HealthNews was a web-based tool created to enable the public health workforce to rapidly scan published health-related news articles. A web-based prototype was created – which successfully pulled news articles from Google’s News service – leveraged the Treemap algorithm for the visualization design. In 2013, Google disabled the feed and the prototype archived. The resource was not flash-based and thus, would be able to work on mobile devices. Visualization Specifics: The larger the rectangle and font size the more popular the article topic, and the brighter the background color, the more recent the news item. This prototype was inspired by: http://newsmap.jp.
